What is Bourbon Heritage Month?

Bourbon Heritage Month is a celebration of America's Native spirit, bourbon! It was put into place in 2007 by the US Senate and is a month-long celebration that aims to honor the uniqueness, history, and craftsmanship involved in making that bottled-up Kentucky sunshine we all know and love! Now, technically speaking National Bourbon Month was only an event that happened in 2007; so the month is more appropriately named "Kentucky Bourbon Heritage Month", but I think it's just a great time to celebrate our favorite spirit. You don't need to twist my arm to do that!

The state of Kentucky is obviously where many of the celebrations happen, but that doesn't mean you can't celebrate if you live out of state! Here are some ideas to get you started!

  1. Travel to KY and join the festivities in person.

Whenever we stop in Kentucky, it's always a good time, whether it's doing a new distillery tour, or even going to the local restaurants to see all the great pours from the local distilleries. If you can go in September, I highly recommend looking for unique events that you aren't able to partake in other times of the year. The City of Louisville has a great resource for seeing what's going on here.

    1. Do a blind taste test with some friends.

It's no secret that the summer is sadly coming to an end. Soak up that last little bit of sunshine by doing a blind taste test with some friends outside! Have everyone bring a bottle to try and rate them all without knowing what they are! I bet you will be surprised at the results!

    1. Do some research on what makes your favorite distillery unique!

As many of you know, My wife and I run a TikTok channel called Bourbon Buzz, and one of my favorite things to do is to talk about this history of the distillery before every video! It allows you to appreciate the bourbon even more, and gives you a cool story to tell when you have your friends try your new favorite bottle!

However you plan to celebrate National Bourbon Month, I hope you enjoy it! Let me know what distillery you think has the coolest and richest history by rating it on the world's best bourbon app NEAT: Whiskey Finder!!
